In this day and age, the majority of companies ask their staff to be competent in the English language. This may be in the form of when you apply for a job, the interview may be in English. Some companies ask their staff to take exams such as TOEFL, IELTS, KPDS etc.
But for most people they have a good knowledge of the language but they need to keep their level 'up' or need specifics for their industry, or it could be preparation for meetings, interviews, presentations and tele-conferences.
What I believe is the biggest problem especially with learners of English in Istanbul is the lack of confidence. They worry about their mistakes, fluency, what other people will think, they feel nervous, but I guess the best one I've heard is the one where this person feels really anxious when in a meeting with foreigners and their manager is present: the manager doesn't speak a word of English, DON'T WORRY!!!
